Why do men bow at our trike? Trike Tours Melbourne’s Frequently Asked Questions Part 2

Q.        What power unit is in the trike?

A.        Oh, so that’s why they bow? They’re looking under the wheel arch to check out the motor! It’s a two litre motor that puts out 103 kw of power (140 hp) and 200 nm of torque … but that’s all we’re telling you. Ok, a bit more – it weighs about 750 kg!

Q.        Is it a VW Beetle motor?

A.        No. We were too young for one of those then, so we left that technology back in the 60’s.

Q.        What’s it like to ride?

A.        Well, given the comfortable seat at the front, and the engine and all the power behind you it reminds me of my days hanging around fighter aircraft – a seat strapped to the front of a jet engine. So it’s a bit like having a jet engine up … er … close behind you! Passengers find their seats comfortable and also get the same effect, so try it out for yourself.

Q.        How fast does it go?

A.        As fast as the speed limit allows and passenger comforts warrants. Yeah, I know, that’s not what you wanted to know! The manual says (please wait whilst I turn the page).

More to come another time, if you keep asking questions …
